Electrician
These 2 Hands
These are the hands of one of the hardest-working electricians I know.
Jett is extremely good at his job, and that might be all this article is about. However, this young man is a multifaceted individual. It’s rare for a pair of young hands to clock up much of an autobiography, but Jetts are doing exactly that.
When they are not on the tools, Jett’s hands can often be found wrapped around the handlebars of a motorbike.
For the last two years, Jett has ridden his bike in the notorious Finke Desert Race, an off-road, multi-terrain two-day race through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) Community. The race crosses the Finke River, believed to be the oldest river in the world and is held in June each year.
The decision to ride in a race like this, where bikes and cars share the same tracks across red desert dunes at gravity-defying speeds of 160km p/hour (and beyond at times), is courageous. Last year Jett came in 63rd, and this year, his time has improved to 45th.
Training begins months out from the race and includes abstaining from many things that most people, young or old, wouldn’t want to give up. If you’re getting the idea that this young man isn’t your typical small-town human, you would be correct.
Jett also has a very entertaining podcast. The podcast isn’t just about Jetts passion, racing and bikes; Jett and Isabella talk about life from the perspective of 20-something young adults. They also have great guests on the show. It’s funny, it’s engaging, and it takes a lot of guts and vision to launch a podcast at such a young age in a small-town environment and pull it off with humour and content that appeals to a diverse crowd.
I asked Jett what he would like to do with his hands in the future. All he could see right now was bikes. Fair enough. Finke, it’s a pretty high cloud from which to come down.
I’ve always found Jett to be one of the most down-to-earth, humble humans, young or old in the industry. As always, it’s difficult to keep these stories to a two-minute read.
You can catch Jett on Instagram here and the Knocked Off podcast here. I highly recommend you check him out.

Jett sounds like a wonderful person... You find such gems for this project is crazy... Even I have an obsession for motor bikes and hope to race one day even if I lose.... It's wonderful to see you be the voice of people who don't speak or are silent most of the while.... Exceptional work as always....
I’m curious, Kate, where do you meet these people? Do they live in your town? And is everyone willing to share something about themselves?
