Jett sounds like a wonderful person... You find such gems for this project is crazy... Even I have an obsession for motor bikes and hope to race one day even if I lose.... It's wonderful to see you be the voice of people who don't speak or are silent most of the while.... Exceptional work as always....
Thanks Chris. I think it is more a case of so many people having a story - but I love motorbikes too and find the Finke to be such a courageous thing to do and I know Jett as he is our electrician so it was an easy enough ask.
Yes, they live in my town, some I know, some I don’t. Early days, but I haven’t had a refusal yet - if I do, that’s fine. Here’s the thing Mel, I think there is a lot of people talking on the internet - a lot of noise. But there isn’t a lot of listening. There is certainly far less authentic two way conversation than there used to be when people would pull up and have a chat in real life. Everyone looks at their phones.
I could listen for ages and I’ve had a couple of really deep and enjoyable dives with people. I have to condense my stories to 2 minute reads because unfortunately I’ve found in previous experiments, that is what people will read. Even here on Substack, people say they enjoy the longer read, but do they? Really? All the time and in very instance? For a project like this 2 minutes is perfect. And it makes me condense and summarise. It will hopefully turn me into a more powerful writer and listener. Here’s hoping 🤞
