I first met Glenda at the front desk of the library. She looked warm and approachable so I mustered my courage to give her the elevator pitch for my new project.
Thankfully she gracefully complied and was so interesting I could have spoken with her all day. Glenda has used her hands for many things. She has been an art teacher for 5 1/2 years, an illustrator for 7 years, a librarian for 23 years as well as a photographer for the (now defunct) Western Star newspaper. Although she has lived in other places including Doomadgee for over three years, Glenda was born in Roma and it is to here that she returned to live.
(Doomadgee is a town and a locality in the Aboriginal Shire of Doomadgee, Queensland. It is a mostly indigenous community situated about 140 kilometres from the Northern Territory border, and 93 kilometres west of Burketown. Thankyou Wikipedia.)
I asked Glenda what her favourite roles had been with her hands, and she replied illustration and photography.
For her photo, Glenda chose a favourite stack of books that were close to her heart.
I love this, I’m a librarian too and have been an illustrator and photographer also!
